Patio with rattan garden furniture at Meadow Croft, Wythenshawe

Wythenshawe sits in the south of Greater Manchester, on the way to the airport and close to Wythenshawe Hospital. People stay here because the journey is short: an early flight, a late landing, a run of shifts, or a few days visiting someone on a ward. It is also a sensible base for Altrincham, the M56 and a match or a tour at Old Trafford.

We look after two houses in this part of the city. Both are proper homes, with more than one bedroom, parking, and a garden. You book them direct, and you deal with the same small team that maintains them. If you are comparing the two, the practical differences are dogs, the driveway, and how many of you are coming. Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am at every Amberwood home.

Amberwood Drive sleeps five in three bedrooms. It is dog-friendly, as long as dogs stay off the furniture, and a fee may apply for a large dog. The back garden has a table, chairs and a barbecue. Parking is free and on-street, usually with room for two cars. Fast WiFi, a washer-dryer, an air fryer, a Nespresso machine and a travel cot are all in the house. The bedrooms are upstairs and there is no lift. Check-in is from 3pm, check-out is by 11am. Parties and smoking are not allowed.

Meadow Croft sleeps six in three bedrooms and four beds. It is the house we point families towards. There is a front driveway, so you are not circling the street after a flight, and a back garden with a lawn and a patio of rattan seating. Inside, the kitchen and dining area is open-plan and the lounge has a brick fireplace. A bathroom and a separate downstairs WC make it easier with children. The house is suitable for children and infants. One pet can be considered on request. Parties and smoking are not allowed. Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 12pm (noon).

The two Wythenshawe houses

Who stays

Airport stays

Amberwood Drive is about five minutes from Manchester Airport. Meadow Croft is in the same part of Wythenshawe. Both save you a city-centre hotel when the flight is at an awkward hour.

Hospital visits and shifts

Wythenshawe Hospital is close to both houses. Families visiting, and people working a run of shifts, use the area because the drive at the end of the day is short.

Contractors

If the job is in south Manchester, a house with parking and a kitchen is usually calmer than a room. Tell us how long you need and whether you are bringing a van.

Families and small groups

Meadow Croft sleeps six and is set up for children. Amberwood Drive sleeps five and can take a dog. Neither is a party house.
